Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Jamie J — 29 Jun 2016
Quite possibly the weirdest sounding idea committed to cinema in recent years, an adaptation of a spoof of an adaptation. With zombies.
While not setting the world alight, at least outside of it's zombie filled universe, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a fairly entertaining romp, cleverly mixing the original Jane Austen tale with hearty doses of zombie related violence and tomfoolery. Everything is played with a straight face, the highlight being Matt Smith's performance, delightfully over the top and yet completely in earnest.
There are a hand full of jokes that do raise the odd hearty laugh. Just sadly not enough to really raise the film any higher. Coupled with some fairly poor special effects, erratic direction and a run time that feels a tad too long. Sadly this means you have a film that, while entertaining isn't going to do much for most people.
