Review of Pride & Prejudice (2005) by Jane L — 22 Apr 2014
I'm giving this a two out of five purely based on the film's visual style and performances. I loathe Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" novel impassively--although the language is beautiful, the characters are wooden and the situations are uninteresting and have no legitimate conflicts.
This movie seems pretty faithful to the general tone of the novel, but it wouldn't have hurt them to make characters such as Elizabeth and Mr Darcy more interesting. Keira Knightly is okay, as is the supporting cast, with Donald Sutherland's hilarious performance being my particular favorite.
I will praise this film especially for its beautiful landscapes and intricate sets, as well as it's cinematography and period soundtrack. It's a well-made film, I am just not its intended audience.
