Review of Pride and Glory (2008) by Charles S — 10 Jan 2010
Caught this gem on cable and now realize what a crime it was that the writer's strike delayed release of this film --- which deserved much more notice.
Filled with stellar performances (Norton, Farrell, Voight, et al) and Directed and co-written by Gavin O'Connor (who did the terrific "Tumbleweeds") this is a film made for award attention and got lost in the shuffle.
The story of NYPD corruption and the family ties interlaced within is real and gritty, calling to mind police dramas from the 1970's like "Serpico" and "Prince Of the City". You can forgive the somewhat melodramtic ending since the entire movie up to that point plays like a great episode of "The Shield".
