Review of Pride (2014) by Regina M — 11 Sep 2014
Heartfelt and bittersweet, Pride offers insight into challenges that brought marginal groups together in 1980s Wales. Individual, personal stories intertwine with general prejudice and stereotypes with humor and pathos. I would have liked to have seen more of the breathtaking Welsh landscape but between coming-of-age blossoming and courage in the face of violent opposition there is plenty of timeless humanity, beautiful in itself. A show-stopping disco number in the heart of a drab miner's town put me in mind of the classic youtube College Humor video, "Gay Men Will Marry Your Girlfriends" and is even more joyous. Wonderful performances from the whole cast bring the kind of cathartic satisfaction we have come to expect from.
British films and wish we would find from Hollywood.
