Review of Pride (2014) by Kj P — 04 Jan 2015
Maybe it was the title, but at first I kind of thought "yawn..how many movies riddled with clichés are they going to make about gays?" However, I decided to check it out and can happily report it is genuinely affecting and (mostly) avoids the clichés, offering a refreshing plot twist instead: the gays in this movie decide to come to the aid of Thatcher-era striking miners in a Welsh community. The resulting culture clash is what gives the movie most of its dramatic power and.
comedic elements. I never heard about this when it happened; what a great subject for a movie! It tugs at one's heart strings, but not too desperately like.
some movies of its genre, offering more true life grit than over the top melodrama. Anyone can enjoy this movie, it's pretty marvelous and deserves its Golden Globe nomination. The story is all the more amazing in that it happened at a time in which some gays were more concerned and freaked out about self-survival in the face of AIDS than helping some non-gay group not particularly known for their support of gays in the least. That's what gives the movie it's "WOW" factor.
