Review of Pride (2014) by Clem A — 06 Jan 2015
In this witty & heartfelt film based on true events, a group of London gay & lesbian activists identifying themselves as Lesbian & Gays Support the Miners raised money for the families of Welsh coal miners striking in the summer of 1984.
Mark (Ben Schnetzer), Jonathan (two-time Golden Globe nominee Dominic West), Dai (In Americaâ??s Paddy Considine), Gethin (Andrew Scott), Mike (Joseph Gilgun), Steph (Faye Marsay), Jeff (Freddie Fox), & Joe (George MacKay), portray the activists who arrive en masse in the small mining town putting many members of the Miners Union and the community ill at ease.
What happens is the gradual breaking down of the barriers of prejudice and ignorance to enable the forming of cooperation and friendship between the two groups. Director Matthew Warchus & screenwriter Stephen Beresford have enlightened us with a story that most viewers never knew about, but also the reminder of the power of will and refusing to give up on what you believe is right.
The performances from the entire cast were wonderful & their portrayal of the real people were believable. There was a perfect mix of humor & humanity in the film. You can SEE THIS FILM which is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture-Musical or Comedy.
