PRIDE portrays the unlikely alliance and friendship formed between a small group of gay activists and striking Welsh miners during the mid-1980s. Those days seem like a different world and while we take the rights and acceptance won by the LGBT movement in the UK pretty much for granted and this movie is a timely reminder of just how hard won those rights were.

This is most definitely a feel good movie and there is little illustration of the hardships faced by the miners who were on strike for so many months. However the movie has tremendous good heart and is told in a warm and humorous manner, with some genuine belly laughs along the way.

There's a terrific ensemble cast headed by Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy who play the leaders of the village. The improbable alliance they form with the young gay activists is touching and inspirational and there really isn't much not to enjoy about this great little movie.
