Review of Priceless (2006) by Dylan B — 28 Nov 2008
A pitch-perfect romantic comedy with a classic touch. Let's face it, romantic-comedy is definitely not American cinema's strong point right now, so it is refreshing anytime I see one worth watching.
Priceless is charming, sexy, silly, and fun, all without being completely absurd or unimaginative. Sure, it's a bit predictable from the get go, but because the actors are so wonderful to watch together, it's all worth the trip.
Audrey Tautou has never looked better (10 out of 10) and doesn't the camera just love her here? I think it's easily believable that all these men would be willing to spend so much money on someone so beautiful.
Gad Elmaleh also gives a great underdog performance and plays wonderfully off Tautou. The only real downside to Priceless is that you may miss a glimpse of the flawless Amelie star while attempting to read the subtitles (assuming you don't speak French).
Even if you're not a fan of foreign films, this is definitely an easy one to get through.
