Review of Priceless (2006) by Jose P — 05 Jan 2009
Irene (Audrey Tautou) is on the Rivera with her elderly provider to celebrate her birthday. Eventually he falls asleep on her and she slips down to the hotel bar for a drink. She then mistakes barman Jean (Gad Elmaleh) for a wealthy hotelguest and he encourages the deceit by taking her up to the Royal Suite for the night. Eventually Irene finds out what he is and she walks out on him. Jean is smitten though....
Some time later, Jean follows Irene and tries to win her by spending every penny he has on her expensive habits, while Irene is trying to ruin Jean so he leaves her alone. Eventually Jean finds himself in Irene's business with the older and worldly-wise Madeleine, while Irene also takes up a new relation with another wealthy man. Nevertheless, the two of them keep in increasingly close touch..
Hmm... this is a well made film per se, but I think the script has holes here and there. I mostly enjoyed watching Audrey Tautou. I never get tired of seeing her in action. I believe that she has never looked so stunning and sparkling as she does in "Priceless". She is breathtaking with her big reindeer eyes and tiny presence in sexy dresses. Thus, if one wants to enjoy yet another Audrey Tautou movie, this is an ok film.
