Review of Priceless (2006) by Stephen Y — 21 Jun 2009
An occasionally cute, morally bankrupt French rom-com with more comedy than romance, which I suppose is a refreshingly different misstep for a rom-com to make. However, without that much real romance it ends up just as vapid as it would have been if it were unfunny.
Audrey Tautou is completely gorgeous; I'm gay but I still couldn't take my eyes off her whenever she was onscreen. She has some chemistry with her co-star, Gad Elmaleh, but the whole setup is so fluffy that their story comes off as a shallow game of attraction with love nowhere to be found.
Still, between the spectacular on-location shots of the Cote d'Azur, the glamorous hotel rooms and parties frequented by the characters, and Tautou's boobs, there should be plenty onscreen to keep you interested.
It's like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", only French and 90 minutes long.
