Review of Pretty Persuasion (2005) by Yalan Z — 28 Jul 2008
I get the black, but not so much the comedy, much less what it's supposed to be a satire of. Does it satirise high school bitchy drama? Fame-whoring? Both? Neither? I don't really care, to be honest.
The ending is pretty much the movie losing its guts, and the final revelation isn't so much shocking as it is ludicrous and predictable. The action (the sexual harassment allegation), supposedly the centre of the movie, is also extremely slow in unfolding.
The only thing watchable about the movie is Evan Rachel Wood, who makes her character disturbingly sympathetic.
