Review of Pretty Persuasion (2005) by Josh R — 30 Jul 2010
At first I wasn't too keen on this film, but then I saw it again and I liked it. The plot is calculating, cunning and chilling. Evan Rachel Wood is fantastic as destructive, psychopathic and evil Kimberly who is desperate for fame and will do whatever it takes, even if it means destroying people's lives. This film epitomises deep issues such as racism, promiscuity, lack of family stability and fame. However I can identify with the criticisms. Some parts of the film baffled me and the film tries too hard to be funny at times. At first I found the film racist, but racism and religion serves a point in the film. It acts as a contrast to the immorality within the story. On the whole I think this is a good film with a strong cast and the message that the film tries to bring across is clear.
Grade: A-.
