Review of Pretty in Pink (1986) by Deb S — 30 Jan 2011
Molly Ringwald plays a wise teenager, Andie, who's living with her unemployed, single father literally on the wrong side of the tracks. She meets preppy Blane (Andrew McCarthy), who is one of those she and her friends have been conditioned to avoid and vice versa.
He is a "richie". Although attracted to each other, it is the threat of their friends' reactions to their relationship that threatens to break them up. The social issues that Andie faces such as mockery by other pupils, dealing with an unemployed father are placed in an intelligent manner making the viewers understand her problems.
Meanwhile, Jon Cryer is perfect for the character of Duckie, an angst-ridden teen who yearns for Andie. Annie Potts is also wonderful and funny as Andie's quirky coworker Iona.
