Review of Predestination (2013) by Justin P — 01 Feb 2015
With excellent performances by Hawke and newcomer Sarah Snook (who really tackled a hard role /roles, that coulda been laughable in lesser hands ), this time travelling thriller is more than meets the eye on initial viewing of the trailer.
In the end the plot idea is simple (and a bit expected )but it's the JOURNEY getting there and the way it is reveled through the two leads that's truly a exercise for the brain and also a pleasure to behold.
I have loved the flair of the Spierig brothers since Daybreakers, and that slick sense of future's past look combined with a perfect restrained mix of effects is a refreshing juxtaposition amidst bigger budget fare.
The whole first hour may be a bit too timid is pace, but it also sets it a part most from other time travel actioneers. It rather turns things on its head, not being the big blow em up set pieces some may be wanting but it's more questions of personal consequence, existentialism, cause and effect.
An intimate tale with global effect,i loved the ride and look forward to taking the journey again just to wrap my head around the ideas it posits.
