Review of Predator 2 (1990) by Chris W — 09 Jul 2010
This sequel amps up the gore, and some of the cheesiness, but it seems more muddled, illogical, and not as fun. Which, as far as being illogical goes, says a lot considering the plot of the first one. With this one, the Predator doesn't really have a very clearly focused goal, which makes it seem a little more random. It certainly makes for more violence and gore, which isn't always bad, but a little more thought would have been nice. It's great to see Gary Busey do his thing, but there again, the writing leaves a lot to be desired and things could have been handled better. The ending is kinda cool, what with the prize Glover gets, but it doesn't quite top the ending to the first one.
I do like the effects though. They were awesome in the first one, and they're pretty good here too, The Predator once again looks crazy and freaky, and Kevin Peter Hall does a great job playing the itular character (again).
It's a big step down, and I do have a soft spot for it (I like the train scene and the insanity with the gangs getting slaughtered), but it's not really a good movie per se. It is fun and entertaining though, and there's some good humor, and sometimes, that's all you really need.
