Review of Predator 2 (1990) by J.d. N — 23 Mar 2010
With something like Predator, despite the alien villain being killed, you knew there were more of them out there somewhere...watching...waiting... And the sequel plays off of that inevitability with another Predator visiting Earth sometime later (the future circa 1997) this time leaving the Central American jungle for the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Here, he has plenty of dangerous game to hunt, and gets tangled up with the law, in the form of Danny Glover. Gary Busey and Bill Paxton also make appearances; Busey as a secret government agent trying to develop technology from the Predator, and Paxton as the only actor to have been killed by a Predator, an Alien, and a Terminator. Predator 2 keeps the same morals of the original, with the Predator only killing dangerous individuals (when a thermal scan reveals an adversary to be pregnant, he spares her), while introducing some new technology (the net, the spear, the disc). But essentially, it is a repeat of the original, only without the battle of wits and brawn between Arnold and the Predator. And let's face it - that entire second half of the first movie was what made it such a classic.
