Review of Predator 2 (1990) by Tom R — 24 Aug 2010
Even though Predator 2 adds a lot to the Predator mythos, it's not a very good movie. Not only is Arnold Schwarzenegger a tough act to follow as leading man, but I don't think Danny Glover translates into "action superstar;" in Lethal Weapon, he was a cop on the verge of retiring.
The Predator's new weapons are a welcome feature, but the story tries so hard to be a mindless shoot-'em-up and a commentary on the war on drugs. I think introducing the Predator to the city is a good idea, but other than the action scenes, the movie is boring.
With Predator 2, I can see the makings of a good sequel, but it's not there. At least it's not embarrassingly bad to the point that future sequels ignore it in the canon; like Alien VS Predator.
