Review of Predator 2 (1990) by Mike T — 03 Mar 2011
Predator 2 is at its core a straight shot from its predecessor, putting the flagship alien in a city, and giving the story a few extra pounds of meat. Sadly, it falls short of the original. The original understood that characters were not at the center of the story - the predator was.
Predator I employed the "less is more" mentality, and kept it centered on a survival story, with a kickass and original villian. The second attempts to complicate the story a bit more, but ultimately becomes tired and boring very quickly, though there was benefit in expounding on the alien a bit, going as far as giving him a cultural identity.
See this if you like silly action/thrillers from the 80's and early 90's or are a fan of the Predator series.
