Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Brady S — 04 Jan 2011
Precious is a tough movie to watch. There are parts that are pretty shocking and disturbing. That being said, I frankly didn't see anything all that new in Precious. Much of what I saw in Precious, I have seen before in other films.
That doesn't mean that Precious is bad; it's just unoriginal. Gabourey Sidibe gives a solid performance with one tearjerking scene, but Mo'Nique is the true surprise. Anyone can pull off being an abusive bitch, but very few people can do that and make you sympathize with them; Mo'Nique does exactly that.
It's not a film I'll want to see multiple times, but it's certainly worth seeing (especially for Mo'Nique's performance).
