Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Laura B — 28 Feb 2015

Precious has a touching story, satisfying ending, nicely realized characters, excellent pacing and standout performances from its leads, but it is too extreme and disgusting in nature. It is definitely important, it is incredibly well acted, well crafted and it has some very emotional moments, but the direction is somewhat pretentious, the mother character is almost cartoonish and the film has too many repulsive details to bear and it is mostly too hard to watch.
