Yes, it is harrowing, and it has its faults - but it is the perfect antidote to the saccharine of 'Dead Poets Society' and other similar films about how education can change your life. This film comes with a caveat to that simplistic notion.
Precious is a wonderful character, and this is a film well worht watching.
