Precious could have lingered in the realm of the pitiful melodrama; instead it gives a sincere and moving portrayal of pain that is, at the end, surprisingly heartwarming. The whole cast is astonishing, especially Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'nique, who give two virtuoso performances.
