I didn't love Precious or even like it that much (I mean - I did in fact like it but it's not a movie I have any interest in seeing again). However that's not to say this wasn't a fantastic film that will unfortunately be long forgotten in a couple of years.

Lee Daniels direction was fantastic. I've seen quite a few films that take place in the projects and ghettos alike (and I rarely have seen them in reality myself) but for some reason the setting and the atmosphere just seemed so real in this film. Add in a pretty good story, a heap of emotion and some damn good performances from unexpected people (Mo'Nique? Holy shit! Lenny Kravitz? Didn't even think twice to consider he was the nurse. Gabourey Sidibe. Never heard of you. Mariah Carey? Where did that come from?)... and you get a very strong powerful film. I'll put it up there with American History X and Boyz in the Hood.
