Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Andy S — 06 Apr 2012
It's nearly impossible to rate a film like this when it is such a struggle to sit through. Its a sad, sad story. Heartbreaking beyond belief. So why would anyone even want to see this much heartbreak? This is NOT entertainment.
Yes, I appreciate the performances but such bleakness is hard to watch for any given period of time. I hope the film somehow is able to draw attention to those being abused and maybe somehow help them find a way out of it.
I appreciate the sentiment towards having compassion for those who are lost in this horrible cycle. But honestly.. I don't enjoy watching other people (even if fictional) suffer. Unless you really want to dig deep in to this kind of emotional pain I would say skip this film.
One strong point the film makes is that living in a permanent welfare state is not a good thing.
