Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Amy A — 20 May 2012
Well, if words could describe just how brutally genuine and heartbreaking Precious is for the majority of its running length, I'm sure I would be able to conjure up more of them to aid me in my time of need. Truthfully, though, I'm quite speechless. Precious is a very special film inhabited by incredible performers that only contribute to the harsh reality that the movie conveys successfully...most of the time. There were a few moments when the movie seemed to strayed into 'slightly contrived' territory - Moments made much more glaringly obvious among the incredibly bleak portrait that director Lee Daniels has painted here.
But this is only a minor complaint. Precious is astonishing in practically every way and demands to be seen.
