Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Red L — 28 Jun 2012
The scene between Mo'Nique, Carey and Sibide should have garnered all three actresses an Oscar. It was seriously the most emotionally-convincing engagement I've seen on film in quite a while. What more could one ask for in a movie than a dark, powerful, emotionally-tormenting plot, producers that care more about the story than the money, an unbelievably stellar cast (and subsequent performances by that cast), and a capable director to tie it all together? Precious is one of those rare few films that'll twist your insides in all directions, but leave you with a satisfied feeling at the end despite not seeing a conclusion beyond knowing that this young woman is more determined than ever to not let her children fall into the same dark place she fought her way out of.
