Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Brett H — 17 May 2013
As a nauseating story of a poor, suburban, and overweight girl dealing with abuse, it's harrowing, but the direction, style, and editing became too silly for me to become invested. Props to an unrecognizable Mariah Carey and a deliciously evil Mo'Nique who provide stand-out work, but in all honesty the characters became cartoons and I had a hard time connecting with the material.
