Review of Practical Magic (1998) by Erik G — 26 Jan 2012
The Owens sisters are two beautiful witches having their own temperaments: the former is a high-living, free-spirited sort, while the other is a homebody who can't get around a family curse that kills the men in their lives. A widowed single mom, Kidman gets into a jam with an abusive Bulgarian and is helped out by her sibling. And as hard as they try, they can't keep their love...alive. Now a good-looking, warm, inquisitive cop is looking for answers, but the only kind of magic can that can break the evil spell is the magic of two people who discover the power of true love.
Directed by Griffin Dunne ('Addicted To Love'), 'Practical Magic' features great acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Sandra Bullock (Sally Owens).
2.) Nicole Kidman (Gillian Owens).
3.) Goran Visnjic (Jimmy Angelov).
4.) Stockard Channing (Frances Owens).
5.) Dianne Wiest (Bridget "Jet" Owens).
6.) Aidan Quinn (Gary Hallet).
7.) Evan Rachel Wood (Kylie Owens).
8.) Alexandra Artrip (Antonia Owens).
I was glad to have watched 'Practical Magic' while finding it as a sweet, funny romantic dramedy (drama-comedy) with the magical fun that the witches use, and there are two spell-casting sisters who want the power of true love. It's nice to see the great acting performances here with Bullock and Kidman in their leading roles; I was surprised to see a young Camilla Belle playing the young Sally in the beginning scenes. In conclusion, I did like the movie - of course - and nothing bored me as this witchcraft themes excited me.
