Review of Power Rangers (2017) by Kitten117 — 26 Mar 2017
I must admit that I went into this film expecting a Michael Bay'esque adaptation with some of the campiness of the original series. However, after leaving the theatre, I felt hopeful about this franchise.
It reminds me a lot Pacific Rim where you know the plot is recycled and there are generic throwaway plot devices (like Rita and Goldar for example) but you leave the theatre reminiscing on some of the scenes and characters that tapped into your inner child's sense of wonder.
In many ways then, this film works - it channels the original series' for old fans, welcomes new fans to the series and leaves you feeling slightly gratified that you got to see a giant robot backhand a baddie into space.
8/10 (but giving it a 10 to balance out the poorly written negative reviews).
