Review of Power Rangers (2017) by Virgonoshaka — 31 Mar 2017
I am a fan of power rangers, in general, there is no escaping that fact, and that alone makes my expectations of this movie very different from someone that just remembers the nostalgic days of the 90s or someone who just doesn't care for power rangers.
That being said, this movie does some things very well, it constructs its characters in more meaningful ways that most series of power rangers, and it makes them real teenagers for the most part (which is much more than the original series did).
The suits even grew on me, and while the story doesn't necessarily works all in all, its goofy and maintains the general spirit of what makes the power rangers work. My main problems with the movie are: it doesn't seem sure to take itself serious or not in some parts, the megazord and "goldar" look pretty bad, some of the concepts seem to have a lot of explanation and none at all, and Bryan Cranston takes the role maybe a little too serious.
With all of that said, I had fun, and that makes it a mission accomplished for this movie. If you like Power rangers, I recommend it, if you like dumb movies with fighting and the like, recommended, if you feel nostaligic about the 90s, recommended too.
For anyone else, better skip it.
