Weird movie, and yes you can be aware of the psychology of the dir. relating to his past, but the composer Goldsmith saw in it a story about gifted people being conduits of perceptions that cause others turmoil, who then place limits on the bearer of such truths.
I think such artists often wonder where it comes from.
