Review of Powaqqatsi (1988) by Taylor H — 17 Jun 2007
Call me a freak but I think this one is every bit as good as Koyaanisqatsi. It's different, to be sure, but there are images in here so beautiful, haunting &/or disturbing you may never forget them. For me, it's the 4 year old girl single-handedly driving the ox cart. It blows my mind every time I see it - and I've watched this a dozen times at least. And there's something new to notice every time as well.
I really admire Reggio's ability to find beauty even in squalor without ever resorting to romanticising it.
