Review of Potiche (1983) by Ed B — 01 May 2011
POTICHE | Amiable trifle about female empowerment.
Francois Ozon is well-served by his lead actors, Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu, in this film version of a Seventies comedy about a woman who comes into her own as something more than a 'trophy wife' when her overbearing husband gets sick, allowing her to take over the family business--and not look back. The characters are all caricatures, but appealing nonetheless. This kind of romantic comedy works best when it doesn't try too hard.
