Review of Posse from Hell (1961) by Martyn M — 08 Feb 2016
A few western cliches surface in a film that could have delivered more. Murphy:"I'm going on alone." Would not be much of a posse that. All action stops so dying cowboy can deliver brief, final speech.
Well performed action sequences, if a little lacking in logic: When bushwacking the bad guys from rocks rifles (which all the posse had) would have a better range than pistols. Too many support cast are given very little depth of character to work with, like they are cannon fodder.
They either get shot one by one or head of "back to town" early. Gung ho, tough guy baddies abound, but they also have very thin characters. Overall: standard western, nothing special.
