Review of Pootie Tang (2001) by Joe K — 12 Aug 2010
There's something to be said for laying on the cheese, and Pootie Tang certainly does that. Sure, the best laughs are all in the beginning, and the concept does wear a bit then as it goes on, but this spoof of blaxploitation does the job in keeping the funny coming for at least an hour.
Pootie Tang himself is a great character, and played with a enough charisma to keep the film interesting. Chris Rock also gets to have fun playing three separate roles, including one that lets him scream as much as he likes.
Plus, it has Dirty Dee, Biggy Shorty, Trucky, Frog and Robert Vaughn. Put bluntly, Pootie Tang is exactly what you'd expect from the title, and if thats what you're looking for, enjoy.
