Review of Pontypool (2009) by Paul M — 22 Nov 2009
This was a pleasant little zombie/virus movie that creeped up on me and took me by surprise. It stars nobody famous and was written by nobody famous - but it was fabulous. The first half of the movie details a mysterious outbreak by audio alone (set in a radio station). The zombie infection is spread by language, rather than bites, so this was apt.
It reminded me a little of Carpenter's The Fog in many ways - this was all about building tension rather than cheap exploitative effects and scares. Sure, by the end the movie struggles to make sense of it's own narrative and does resort to a little gore but it was well worth 90 minutes of my time.
