Review of Pontypool (2009) by Brent M — 07 Mar 2010
Overall I liked this zombie light movie. This movie forgo gore for intelligence and decent quality acting. Now the story is a bit odd, because of the non-traditional vector for infection, but the actors still do a great job with this book adaptation.
Stephen McHattie makes the movie as Grant Mazzy a burnt out radio DJ who hires on in a small snowy Ontario town. He's perfectly cast for this role, from his husky voice to his wrinkled rough face.
His great non-verbal acting skills are presented really well by the director. Alot is conveyed in a simple eyebrow raise. The other actors are pretty good though the doctor is soo bizarre and plays borderline crazy really well.
There is a couple odd editing scenes, one is the first time Mazzy and his director work together, it just seems a bit odd and you wonder where the animosity is coming from, another is a odd scene where the zombie first attack the station and you're like what, how did the director get hurt? Its an odd movie, but for a fan of quirky zombie flicks give it a try.
