Review of Pontypool (2009) by Brad G — 15 Sep 2010
Canadians sure make some odd films. And like so many Canadian films, this movie doesn't quite work, but has some really interesting ideas. What I expected to turn into a zombie movie, turned into something else (sort of), and the result reminded me a bit of H.
P. Lovecraft's work. Stephen McHattie holds the whole thing together as a disgraced radio host doing time in a small Canadian community. When things start going strange, he works to keep it together.
The final act is pretty disappointing, but the buildup is quite good. They make good use of a small budget and limited sets.
