Review of Pompeii (2014) by Allison P — 28 Aug 2014
After watching this for a second time, it still holds up. The ecstasy of pure Hollywood cliche and overacting still lingers over me several hours after watching it. The only films I would be able to recommend more than this are on some Empire Strikes Back levels.
Maybe Pompeii isn't as bad as The Room or Manos. But then again, maybe it is. Did it try to be this bad? Did it know that it would be so ironically enjoyable? This film really perplexes me. Should you see Pompeii? Of course you should see Pompeii.
Everyone should. It's a classic example of how not to make a movie. And somehow it manages to shine through like a diamond in a pile of shit. Maybe a fake diamond.
