Review of Pompeii (2014) by Tyler R — 18 Dec 2014
Much like M. Night Shyamalan, Paul W.S. Anderson keeps getting money from studios to churn out junk, and not even entertaining junk. As is the case with Pompeii, which takes a fascinating historical event and mashes it with Titanic to deliver another poorly acted, action intense, hunk of junk.
The film follows a slave who fights for his freedom in the last days of Pompeii. The fact that this was turned into a love story just shows how little originality is left. And the fact that the entire outline for the love story is taken straight from Titanic is laughable.
Also laughable is the acting, which is surprising given the talent on display, such as Kit Harrington and Kiefer Sutherland. However, no one is put to good use and all of them are wasted because, well, this is from the guy who did all the Resident Evil films.
The action is cheap and the visuals are as well. The plot plays out exactly as you'd expect. Overall, there's a reason this got dumped in February, the graveyard for films.
