Review of Poltergeist III (1988) by Gary G — 12 Oct 2008
This installment is widely known as the worst of the three films. I don't agree, I definitely enjoyed it more than the previous effort because that film was practically a rehash of the original with a new house.
This film moves to the Chicago and takes place in a mirror filled high rise building. The new venue allows the filmmakers to showcase several mirror tricks that add a whole new layer to the viewing experience.
Every scene is filled with mirrors so you find yourself trying to watch what's going on in the scene and what's going on in the mirrors behind the actors. It's also known that the actress who plays little Carol Anne dies before filming was complete which adds a whole new layer of creepiness to the affair.
It's especially morose when she catches her reflection in the mirrors and she's all demonic looking. Her slightly bloated face, which I have to guess was a result of her illness makes her look all the more deathly/sad with that demon looking make-up on.
This film also boasts the film debut of Lara Flynn Boyle as well as actual death scenes, as the previous films had no actual murders. It's also full of unintentional gaffes and holds the record for the most times a character's name is called out during a flick.
Carol Anne is uttered an unbelievable 118 times.
