Review of Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) by Leah Y — 15 Jan 2008
Firmly sequel fare with too many new ideas, way too much exposition, and corny throwbacks to the original. That being said, alot of the effects were pretty cool, alot of the creatures were pretty neat (Hellraiser-esque), concepts by the great HR Giger.
Of all the new ideas, the strongest was the introduction of Julian Beck who was darned terrifying. Too bad he died. Still, all of the original actors were assembled and Jerry Goldsmith rounds out a nice score that's probably too good for the movie.
High-minded criticizing aside, better than pretty much every Hollywood movie that came out this year.
