Review of Poltergeist (2015) by David C — 23 Jun 2015
The original Poltergeist is one of my favourite film. It's a hard to beat mix of chills and thrills created by two legendary filmmakers, Texas Chainsaw's Toby Hooper and Steven Spielberg. This 2015 remake is pale in comparison, despite its attempts to modernize the story.
There's nothing much scary or suspenseful about it, and the visual effects completely overwhelm the experience. The filmmakers also tried way too hard to make the clown(s) scary, stealing from Labyrinth's "goblins in the bedroom" scene (which is actually far more scary, oddly enough).
It's solid enough to pass your time, but honestly just go watch the original if you want a better haunted house film.
