Remakes are quite the conundrum with me. See, I'm currently seventeen so I've never really grown up with the movies that have been remade or rebooted in the last five or so years.

There are sonic exceptions of course, but when it comes to movies like these, I never really gave a damn. I just saw the trailers for it, and thought it looked like an average bad horror movie.

It doesn't help that we've been getting some not just good horror movies, but GREAT horror movies ("The Babadook" and "It Follows"), so it had some stiff competition in that regard.

But with the recent announcement that Gil Kenan (This film's director and the same man behind the extremely underrated "Monster House") will be directing and co writing the upcoming movie based on the video game "Five Nights At Freddy's", so I thought I'd give it a shot to see if this guy can give us a good abdication of that franchise.

What I was expecting was a terrible movie to go on my worst list, what I got, was a pretty decent remake.

I never grew up with the original, in fact, I only watched it for the first time a few months ago (Great movie BTW) so I had the original fresh in my mind, and I had a better time with this movie than I thought.

While I'm someone who thinks most horror movies like this should build up the big supernatural event for the beginning of the second act, I feel like it works here than in most due to the fact that it almost seems like the movie is aware that its own existences is pointless, so it cuts the bullshit and gives you what you came to see.

The actors are trying their best with the screenplay they were given (Done by David Lindsay-Abaire who before hand wrote "Robots", "Oz: The Great and Powerful", "Rabbit Hole", and "Rise of The Guardians") and they pull of decent enough performances, but it doesn't change the fact that the writing isn't going to be winning any "Best Screenplay" awards this year.

The effects are......bad, but not the worst I've ever seen, and sometimes they can look good, the basement scene in particular was well done. But all of this can be over looked, if the movie does this one thing right.

And this is the big question. Is, Poltergeist, scary?

......no. Not at all.

Sometimes it can have a creepy scene (The Basement Scene was the most effective scene in the entire movie) but for the most part it just comes and goes.

So overall, while Poltergeist isn't scary or even close to being as good as the original, its still an entertaining enough remake to kill an hour and half...
