Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Joe W — 14 Oct 2015

Sam Rockwell is a pretty good actor. He's got "it." However, I was a little put off by the "hipness" of the family. At one point I thought I was watching one of those Samsung commercials that's all about showing me how progressive yet traditional and adorably hip Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are.

Still, I actually really enjoyed this movie. As far as horror remakes go, this one seemed to have a good grasp on how to bring Poltergeist into the 21st century. I think anyone who goes into this with low expectations and doesn't have some misguided loyalty to the original (which is a bit overrated itself) will enjoy this movie provided they actually sit and watch it, in the dark, and set their phone aside for 2 hours.
