Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Waldo S — 05 Nov 2016
Where to begin? I'm not one one to grumble over remakes, sometimes they deliver what the originals could not (Hill Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and even Friday the 13th were enjoyable, if not better, than the originals).
Having said that, Poltergeist 2015 failed (literally) on every level. The clown doll, for instance, probably the most frightening character from the original, and coincidentally the focal point of the poster art, had a whole 10 seconds of screen time, that was easily as forgettable as an extra passing in the background.
The tree scene-anticlimactic. And not once did I feel as though Sam Rockwell's character was interested in protecting his family. In fact, I thought he hated his little girl. Jobeth Williams shed tears for her stolen child.
What were these people thinking?? Utter disappointment. And that says a lot coming from a movie lover, that usually finds SOMETHING to enjoy about a film.
