Review of Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989) by Zack B — 25 Sep 2010
Yet another Police Academy sequel. Can't. Stop. Flogging. Dead. Horse! Still, having said that, City Under Siege is undeniably superior to Miami Beach if for no other reason than it doesn't rely on a gimmicky change of location and enormous amounts of padding.
Sure the same old characters and gags are recycled... again... and the staleness is unquestionable but the plot is kinda fun in a tongue-in-cheek way and once again they somehow manage to sneak a number of genuinely funny gags in amongst the sea of duds - again almost exclusively thanks to G.
W. Bailey and Lance Kinsey (Harris and Proctor), though as in Miami Beach the goofy villains also provide a couple of good laughs. So, that's it for the 80's 6-films-in-as-many-years Police Academy run.
All that's left is Mission to Moscow, and with only a handful of familiar characters returning, another gimmicky change of location and a universally infamous reputation, things are looking bleak.
