Review of Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986) by Robert H — 20 Feb 2011
Guttenberg is back and so is everyone else! In what should be standard for a third installment of a comedy franchise, Police Academy 3 brings all the players from both the first AND the second film back to where it all started... the police academy. But that's about the only good thing about the film.
For a comedy, most the new jokes are pretty lame and the old ones aren't told nearly as good as they were in the previous installments. One upgrade was the use of Hooks who for the first time does something other than just say "freeze dirt bag!".
Lost is Goldthwaite who while he was hilarious in the second film, isn't nearly as funny as he should have been.
Luckily the Oyster Bar makes a short but much loved appearance and Winslow ups the anti with some serious beatboxin.
In the end, Police Academy 3, while it had the right idea, falls short of both the first and second films.
