Review of Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! (2017) by Grace P — 20 Dec 2017
I think it tried too hard to be what it once was. Taking all the memorable emotional scenes from the original series and the previous movies and cramming them into one. I think they thought it would have a greater emotional impact, but in my personal opinion it only ended up cheapening those moments.
It's not a bad movie and it does have a lot going for it, but it definitely traded pacing and believability for expediency. That being said the artwork is beautiful, the voice acting is on point, but the best thing about this movie are the clear bonds of friendship.
None more so than Ash and Pikachu.
