Review of Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) by Brjacobs — 10 Feb 2020
This film was objectively awful. So much of it could have been cut. None of the characters are likeable in the least. Ryan Reynolds was good as Pikachu, though not all of his jokes landed. Though the CGI worked for a lot of the pokemmon, some of them were awfully constructed (Gengar, Mewtwo, Mr.
Mime). The story was so bad because half of the time it made no sense. The female character was exceptionally awful, terrible actress and she could be written out of the movie with one or two rewrites.
The environment doesn't feel lived in in the least. The bad guys plan makes no sense and breaks pokemon logic. Not deserving of praise.
